Eye Health

Eye Health is a very important component of your general health. Healing your vision can be achieved following some very simple steps.

Natural Healthy Vision

More people every year are diagnosed with eye problems. There are many things that you as an individual can do to promote self-healing in regards to your vision. Vision care in this country is symptom oriented. Eye doctors are taught in America that once something goes wrong with the eyes there is not much that can be done to reverse the problem. Glasses, contact lenses, and eye surgery are the major tools of the eye health industry. Nearly all adults in the Western world have cataracts by the age of 70.

People think that declining eyesight is just a rite of passage as you age. People come in year after year for ever-increasing prescriptions. The corrective lenses given to these people are false hope. They are anything but corrective. They just cause the eye to lose some of its flexibility, which causes more dependence and the decline in vision. The doctor generally never talks about rehabilitation and prevention.

Vision problems have been shown to be related to how we treat our eyes. 70% of all accountants are nearsighted but only 10% of farmers are. Could it be that our vision is affected by how we use our eyes?

Vision health just like our general health can be affected in a positive manner by paying attention to the following things:

DIET. A large percentage of your diet should be healing food, fruits and vegetables. Pay particular attention to dark vibrant colors. Greens such as kale, spinach and collared greens are high in lutein and have been shown to protect the macula and lenses of the eye. Blueberries for example are an especially good fruit to eat for the eyes. Vitamin C, D., and A. are particularly important to eye health. Drink plenty of water and avoid sugar, alcohol, and caffeine.

EXERCISE. Glaucoma patients can reduce their inter-ocular pressure by 2.5 mm just by taking a 40 minute brisk walk five times a week. This also helps to reduce stress and increase the blood flow to the brain. Eye health is directly related to the health of your brain.

SUPPLEMENTS. If you think you are not getting all the nutrients you need in a clean healthy diet by all means supplement with certain vitamins. 3000 mg vitamin C -- 100 mg coenzyme Q 10 -- 1500 mg omega-3 -- 200 mg alpha lipoic acid.

SMOKING. Quit smoking. Smoking doubles your chances of getting cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. Smoking affects your circulation and blood flow is key to eye health.

STRESS. Researchers as far back as the 1800s have shown stress and glaucoma to be linked. Reduce your stress and reduce the possibility of getting glaucoma.

SUNLIGHT. Get at least 20 minutes of natural sunlight a day. Sunlight not only helps you produce vitamin D, which is an anti-inflammatory vitamin, but it also stimulates good vision.

Some other good tips for improving your vision are:

Do not keep your eyes focused in one place for sustained periods of time. Don't stare. If you are reading or doing close work take a break every 10 minutes.

Find some eye exercises to do. Dr. Mier Schneider is just one person who has written about improving your vision through exercise.

Our eyes are the major way we take in information. They help us adapt to the world. Take care of your eyes.
